I wasn’t able to attend this years Blog Paws conference; but you know what Laika and I are going to be doing tonight? Watching the live stream of this years Nose-to-Nose awards. We’ve been nominated for best new pet blog and I’m still in shock. Be sure to check out the rest of this years awesome nominees.

Favorite Dog Articles of the Week
Hospital Admissions for Injuries Caused by Dogs up 76% in 10 Years
A recent study published found that admissions to hospitals for dog bites in England have rose 76% over the past decade. This news has made many question whether enough is being done to tackle irresponsible owners and protect the public.
Where Do People Get Information About Dog Training?
This article brings up a brilliant point; can we blamed for dog training mistakes when there’s so much bad advice out there? A recent survey found that more than half of dog owners (55%) get their training from the internet, a book, or by their own instincts.
Barking Characterizes Dogs As Voice Characterizes People
A new study found that we can predict a dogs age, gender, and certain situational cues from listening to their barks. The researchers predicted the gender of the dog correctly 85% of the time, the age 80%, and they were able to guess what situation the dog was in 50% of the time (alone, being fed, with a stranger, playing with a ball).
What Should You Do When Your Dog Growls at Someone?
Great information on what a dogs growl can mean and some practical tips to deal with the behavior. Wonderful information for anyone that has a fearful or anxious dog; I’ve done many of these exercises with Laika myself and have had great success.
Owner Takes Terminally Ill Dog on Bucket List Adventure
I’m always moved by these lovely tributes; and this one has some truly beautiful images and scenery. But if you’re feeling a bit emotional I understand if you skip it. Is someone peeling onions? No; must just be me.

19 Dogs Who Love the New Puppy
It’s no secret that I’d love to have a companion for Laika one day, but it’s probably not going to happen. So for now I live vicariously through other cute doggie siblings. If you think the photos in the featured image above are cute wait til you check out the whole post on the Dodo.
Texans Line Up to Adopt After Animal Shelter is Flooded
With the recent storms that hit Texas lately one Austin based rescue reached out for help after their building flooded. They asked for temporary homes for their animals while they work to get the shelter back in order. Volunteers lined up around the building to foster the animals, bringing in dry towels, and donating money. And yes all the animals were able to be placed into foster homes while the rescue gets fixed back up.
17 Dogs That Don’t Know How to Smile But Are so Cute it Doesn’t Matter
Dog smiles can be so awkward; but they’re still quite endearing.

The Story of Spanish Hunting Dog – a Photography Book
These elegant dogs have had a remarkable fall from grace yet their story is relatively unknown around the world. Even in Spain, their plight is often unheard of, or worse, ignored. Please help make a large art photography book about these beautiful dogs that is neither brutal nor banal but which will help bring the story – and the suffering – to a much-needed wider audience. These dogs deserve a voice.

That whippet video is hilarious!

I’m not known for having a temper but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have been able to film that in such a funny way at that moment. Those cheeky Whippets 🙂
Elaine says
Oh my gosh, the cheeky whippet’s video is shocking. They really did some damage and the guy is cool about it all. Of course, we didn’t see what happened before he decided to video the destruction but it seems he has the temperament of a saint! Thanks for including my post about growling this week too! Love your weekly roundup posts!! 🙂

Nice round up.

First, **Congratulations** on your Blog Paws award win for Best New Blog!! That is so awesome and not shocking at all to us! 🙂 And second, those whippets… OMG. “All the way down to the springs.. and China!” I probably would have been crying my eyes out in frustration. Obviously our friends across the pond have much more reserve and self-control!
Jen Gabbard says
Thanks so much. I still can’t get over those “cheeky” Whippets lol. I couldn’t even imagine coming home to that mess.

CONGRATS on your win!! I was so excited when I heard your name read! I was talking with some other blogging friends, and they all had such nice things to say about Puppy Leaks. We missed you – hopefully you’ll be able to make it next year??
Jen Gabbard says
Thank you so much; I’m so sad I missed the conference this time around (medical issues) but I’m looking forward to next year for sure.
