Death of 20 Dogs at Arizona Kennel
20 Dogs Found Dead In Arizona Kennel
As many as 20 dead dogs were discovered Friday morning by workers at the Green Acres boarding facility in Gilbert, Arizona. It was originally reported that there were 17 dog deaths, now the toll has risen to 20. One of the dogs reportedly chewed through an air conditioning power cord which led to the dogs dying of heat exhaustion overnight. Local authorities are calling it a tragic accident.
Workers at the facility last checked on the dogs at 11pm, when they arrived for work the next morning at 5:30am the dogs were deceased. The kennels owners were out of town when the incident occurred. They arrived back home Friday evening and started making phone calls to the dog owners. Some dog owners are reporting that when they arrived to pick up their dogs on Saturday morning they were told they had escaped.
Doug Hart was out looking for his sister’s dog who had apparently escaped. He spoke to USA Today and said “My mom and all these people have been driving around looking for their dogs for two hours to find out the dogs are dead in the shed.”
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case. Chris Hegstrom from the Sheriff’s office stated “It appears that in the room where the dogs were kept there is a dry wall that the dogs had chewed through and had chewed through an electrical wiring that was behind there that shut the power off to that end of the building” and that “at this point it looks like a tragic accident.” As of Sunday evening no charges have been filed.
