DNA Tests Help California Shelter Speed up Adoptions
Some simple doggie DNA tests are giving some dogs at a California shelter a better chance at getting adopted quicker. When their background is identified the shelter can tell potential adopters more about that dog’s background. It also helps come up with creative names for their dogs such as the “Yorkle,” a Yorkshire Terrier/Beagle mix. Dogs that have been tested are being adopted twice as fast as those that aren’t.
A rescue organization in Costa Rica has been using this name technique with great results.
Gizmo is a “Mini Shihuahua;” part Chihuahua, Min Pin and Shih Tzu. She’s adoptable from the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA in California. Their DNA tested dogs are getting adopted twice as fast as the others.
